Osram steps up their ambitions for OLED lighting

Osram expects to have OLED rear/tail light fixtures in luxury cars by 2016

Osram have announced that they have recently produced a concept OLED rear/tail light fixture the new BMW M4 car that was recently shown at CES in January 2015.

According to the announcement by Osram

  • The OLEDs in the BMW meet the light requirements to satisfy the relevant ECE and SAE standards
  • Of particular important was the way in which OLED lighting fixtures produce a sculptural sculptural effect while minimising the space required for the lights
  • The OLED segments on the BMW M4 show car can emit light of different colours depending on whether the car is driving normally, breaking or turning.

Marc Lünnemann, the man responsible at Osram for OLED business, said, "The show car is an important milestone for our OLED strategy. As a leading supplier Osram wants to have a presence on the road with a series OLED product from 2016 onward."
